Auto Insurance

Auto insurance is short for automobile insurance, also known as vehicle insurance, car insurance, or motor insurance. Auto insurance is insurance the covers cars, trucks, and other vehicles. The purpose of auto insurance is to protect the owner of the insurance if the owner or another person gets in an accident in the owners vehicle. Auto insurance covers damage to the owners vehicle, damage to third party vehicles or property and liability that could result from an accident. The liability portion of auto insurance is often the most crucial as the damages that can result in an accident where harm is caused to others can be extremely high.

A minimum coverage is a requirement to own and operate a vehicle. Many vehicle owners purchase coverage in excess of the minimum for further protection.

What is covered?

  • Auto insurance can cover:
  • The owner of the vehicle (otherwise referred to as the 'insured party')
  • The owner of the policy’s car, truck or other vehicle
  • Third party (cars and people)
  • In some States coverage for injuries to persons riding in the insured vehicle is available without regard to fault in the auto accident (No Fault Auto Insurance)

Auto Insurance Quote

To understand your auto insurance quote you should understand to biggest factors in the cost. Foremost is the amount of insurance that the owner requires. The higher the coverage the more expensive the premium (premium is the term used to describe the insurance payments). Also most insurance have a deductible which is an amount that the insurance owner has to pay before the insurance company will cover costs. The higher the deductible they more lower the premium. It is recommended that a person takes as much coverage as they feel they can reasonably afford while keeping the deductible to a level where payment of the deductible is not overly burdensome.
Some factors that impact cost are not ones where there is a decision to be made. For instance the owners location, sex, driving history, age and type of vehicle all impact the cost of the insurance. There are many companies and insurance agents that offer Auto Insurance. We recommend that you speak to at least two agents to get the lowest cost quote for what you need before you make any decision and that you properly compare rates. Auto insurance rates can vary quite a bit from one broker to another. Of course understanding the key factors of what is covered, the amount of coverage, and the deductible amount is a must when comparing prices so that you know you are comparing equivalent policies.
